Plain gray concrete does the job, but sometimes you want something with more character. Stamped concrete can look like brick, stone, slate, or even wood planks—at a fraction of the cost. At Tommy's Concrete, we've been doing decorative concrete work in Kansas City for over 50 years.

Stamping is done while the concrete is still wet. Special mats press a pattern into the surface, creating texture and the look of natural materials. When done right, stamped concrete is nearly indistinguishable from the real thing.
Color transforms plain concrete. We offer several methods depending on the look you want and your budget.
Integral color is mixed into the concrete before it's poured. The color goes all the way through the slab, so it never wears off or flakes. This is the most durable option and works great with stamped patterns.
Color hardener is broadcast onto the surface of fresh concrete. It creates a denser, harder surface while adding color. It's often used in combination with release agents to create multi-toned effects on stamped work.
Acid stains react chemically with the concrete to create rich, variegated colors. The results are unique—no two surfaces look exactly alike. Staining works on new or existing concrete and creates an almost marble-like appearance.
Stamped and colored concrete looks great on patios, pool decks, driveways, walkways, and porches. It's also popular for commercial applications like restaurant patios and retail entrances. Any place where you want the durability of concrete with a more interesting appearance.
Stamped concrete typically costs less than natural stone, brick, or pavers while looking very similar. You get the aesthetic you want without the premium price. Plus, concrete requires less maintenance—no weeds between joints, no shifting or settling of individual pieces.
Timing is everything with stamped concrete. The concrete needs to be firm enough to hold the pattern but soft enough to stamp. Our crews know exactly when to stamp based on temperature and humidity. We've been doing this long enough to read the conditions.
After stamping, we apply release agent (which adds color variation) and cut control joints. Once cured, the surface gets sealed to protect the color and make cleaning easier.
Stamped concrete lasts as long as regular concrete—25 to 30 years or more with proper care. The main maintenance is resealing every few years to protect the color and surface. We'll give you specific care instructions for your installation.
